Happy New Year! Your resolutions likely have to do with helping your life be happier and healthier – but don’t forget your teeth! Try sticking to one or all of these dental hygeine new years resolutions for the new year.

1. Floss Every Day
Flossing is the number one thing you should be doing every single day. It’s necessary for removing bacteria between your teeth and gums – brushing alone doesn’t remove it all. If the bacteria is not removed, it will get stronger, and will cause bleeding and gum inflammation. If left untreated for too long, it can cause your gums to break down, which don’t grow back.

2. Wear your retainer!
If you got your braces off and have since been an infrequent retainer wearer, now is the time to change that. If you don’t wear your retainer as instructed, your teeth may move, ruining all the hard work and money you put in!

3. Cut down on soda and other sugary drinks
Soda and sugary juices might be delicious, but they are bad in your teeth. The bacteria in your mouth likes sugar, and it creates an acid that weakens your teeth when it is in contat with sugar, causing cavities. Keep your mouth healthy and stick to water!
