Surgical orthodontics is usually only performed in adults. The jaw bone stops forming at age 16 for women and 18 for men, so for patients who have a misaligned jaw or the bite cannot be corrected with braces alone, surgical orthodontics is an option to create the beautiful smile you deserve.
At your initial exam, the True Image Ortho team will take photos and x-rays which will help Dr. Dave assess the severity of your condition. He will advise you if orthognathic surgery will be required as part of your orthodontic treatment plan.
If Dr. Dave determines that you will need orthognathic surgery, we will refer you to a specialist who can perform this type of surgery. The surgery will take place at a hospital and can take several hours to perform, depending on the severity of your case.
Your surgeon will discuss with you any questions you have as well as recovery time and risks. We are also here to answer any questions you may have so please do not hesitate to call us.
Unfortunately, not everyone can be treated with braces alone, yet we believe everyone deserves the best and should enjoy the benefits of a healthy, beautiful smile. Surgical orthodontics may be the answer in giving you the confident smile you are dreaming of.
Contact our office today to schedule your initial exam with Dr. Dave to see if you are a candidate for oral surgery or if braces alone can deliver the beautiful and confident smile you deserve!
