True Image Orthodontics: Phase II Treatment

In True Image Orthodontics by trueimage

Phase II Treatment, simply, is treatment between the ages of 11 and 15, after all permanent teeth have erupted. We do recommend that your child receives his or her first orthodontic exam around the age of seven, so that plans can be made and an assessment of their early needs are made.

When this phase of treatment is done, it is after the adult teeth have erupted. This is because children’s bodies – including their mouth and gums – are growing rapidly at this age. A combination of Phase I and Phase II orthodontic care generally have longer lasting results. Beginning early treatment has many advantages. One of those is that, since there is an overall negative association sometimes related to braces in the later teenage years, kids can get the anxiety they might have about braces out of the way. Another advantage is being able to detect over or under bites or gaps between teeth at an early age, and being able to correct them before they make too strong an impact on oral health.

There is never a wrong time to get braces. If you or your child find that you or they are experiencing any of the most common orthodontic problems, it’s a great idea to get your treatment started soon. Give us a call for your initial consultation.
