What To Do When Moving During Orthodontic Treatment

In Uncategorized by trueimage

Moving can be exciting and stressful. So many things to remember to do before the big day is upon you. If you are moving out of the area, out of state or even out of the country, this can be even more time consuming for you as well as your family. A complication not everyone thinks of when they plan a move, if they or their children are in the middle of orthodontic treatment, is finding a new orthodontist! Here are a few tips we hope will help you.

Call For An Appointment With Your Current Orthodontist

The first thing you will want to do as you begin to prepare for your move is to contact your orthodontist’s office and let them know. They will schedule a specific appointment to help you prepare for the change in care. You don’t want to wait until the last minute for this visit, because your doctor will want to perform a detailed assessment to see exactly where you are currently in your orthodontic treatment. They will then prepare an in-depth report, including all scans and x-rays, on the progress of your current treatment and their plan for your continued treatment through completion. Your orthodontist will either give you the report or send it to your new orthodontist if you have selected one already.

Ask For Help in Finding A New Orthodontist

If you have not selected your new orthodontist, let your doctor know. Orthodontists who are members of the AAO (American Association of Orthodontics) meet lots of other doctors at conferences all over the country so they may have a great suggestion for you of someone they have met, or they can search the database for the AAO to recommend a few orthodontists you can visit when you arrive in your new area.

Financing

If you have already prepaid for your treatment with your current orthodontist, you will need to ask them for a refund for the remainder of your treatment plan. For financing or payment plans, you will want to contact your financier to stop future payments and let them know who the new orthodontist will be when you have transferred your treatment plan to them.
